Fight Cancer: Grow A Mustache

5 11 2009

What do Gomez Adams, Hulk Hogan and that leather guy from the Village People have in common?  Aside from making great Halloween costumes, they each are known for proudly sporting mustaches.  And while the facial hair trend was all but absent from the face of men’s grooming until recently, it’s making a big come back thanks in part to Movemeber, a charity that is raising awareness about men’s health – specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

According to the charity’s website, “Movember – the month previously known as November – is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues.”

The idea was conceived back in 2003 when a group of guys were joking about the staches of their father’s era and how cool it would be to bring back the trend.  Taking the idea a step further, the guys decided to tie in a charity angle, and to date, Movember has raised $47 million globally, making it the largest charity event for men.  In the U.S., the funds raised are split between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation – two worthy causes.

To get involved, Movember asks that you begin with a clean shaven face and take the mouth to grow your mustache.  As you go along, you can get friends and family involved by having them sponsor your efforts and sign up for their own accounts.

Once you have your stache, send a screenshot of your new facial hair to the team at Asylum.com.  From the pack of entries, Asylum.com will gift 50 guys with a Signature Shave Kit from Every Man Jack, an award-winning grooming line.

What do you think?  Are you going to sign up and grow a mustache to help fight cancer?

Recession-Proof Father’s Day Gifts from Every Man Jack

8 06 2009

Every man deserves a quality shower and shave in the morning, so what better item to give your dad this Father’s Day than the gift of grooming.

To kickoff my Father’s Day coverage, I want to share with you two grooming must-haves from Every Man Jack, one of my favorite men’s personal care lines. If you’re new to AreYouBeing.com, I talk about the brand frequently because they offer a wide assortment of products to meet virtually all of your grooming needs. The best part is that the entire collection is available at Target, with the products only setting you back $3 to $8 each.

Realizing that budgets are tight this year, Every Man Jack is offering two new kits with the budget-conscience shopper in mind.

The Signature Shave Kit comes with three full-size products; a Pre-Shave Face Wash, Shave Cream and Post-Shave Face Lotion in the brand’s staple mint fragrance. The Citrus Hair + Body Kit also includes three full-size products including a 2-in-1 Daily Shampoo, Scrub Body Wash and Scrub Body Bar in a clean, citrus scent. You get all this, plus a travel bag, for just $9.99. So while it’s not a huge investment on your part, your dad will think you spent a lot more time and money finding him the perfect grooming set.
