Comic-Con 2009: Tron Legacy Update

25 07 2009

At the time of its release in 1982, Tron – nominated for two Oscars – showcased the most advanced special effects of its time. Nearly 30 years later, Disney is giving the film a proper sequel with Tron Legacy (aka TR2N), due out in May 2010, according to reports from Comic-Con 2009.

Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn, and it is rumored that John Hurt, along with several other big names, will be a part of the cast.  Though the film is still classified as being in production, fans can get a first glimpse of what’s to come by clicking here.

While director Joseph Kosinski maintains the charm and style of the original film – something the legions of fans will appreciate – this big budget Disney spectacle is more sleek, polished and futuristic.

Haven’t seen the first film?  In an interview with Jeff Bridges at Comic-Con 2009, Bridges stated that new fans don’t have to watch the original to follow the new storyline.  Be that as it may, I think it would be a disservice for anyone to watch the new film without seeing the original that inspired a generation of artists, writers, film makers, special effects gurus, computer programmers and more.
