Summer Sweepstakes & Grooming-on-the-Go

26 07 2009

Every Man Jack, one of my favorite grooming brands on the market today, is wrapping up their first WANTED contest.

Hundreds of guys submitted photos for the chance to star in the company’s first national ad campaign, which will run in Men’s Health magazine.

There’s still a few days left to sign up.  In the meantime, Every Man Jack has released their new Travel Kit, perfect for grooming-on-the-go.

The Travel Kit includes face wash, shave cream, face lotion and 2-in-1 shampoo, along with a bonus SPF 15 face lotion and lip balm. Everything you need to keep looking and feeling good while on summer vacation.

Comic-Con 2009: Tron Legacy Update

25 07 2009

At the time of its release in 1982, Tron – nominated for two Oscars – showcased the most advanced special effects of its time. Nearly 30 years later, Disney is giving the film a proper sequel with Tron Legacy (aka TR2N), due out in May 2010, according to reports from Comic-Con 2009.

Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn, and it is rumored that John Hurt, along with several other big names, will be a part of the cast.  Though the film is still classified as being in production, fans can get a first glimpse of what’s to come by clicking here.

While director Joseph Kosinski maintains the charm and style of the original film – something the legions of fans will appreciate – this big budget Disney spectacle is more sleek, polished and futuristic.

Haven’t seen the first film?  In an interview with Jeff Bridges at Comic-Con 2009, Bridges stated that new fans don’t have to watch the original to follow the new storyline.  Be that as it may, I think it would be a disservice for anyone to watch the new film without seeing the original that inspired a generation of artists, writers, film makers, special effects gurus, computer programmers and more.

Is Michael Jackson Alive?

24 07 2009

Unforunately, NO, and the King of Pop’s body – according to Papa Joe – is still MIA.  Maybe this PYT (Pretty Yicky Thing) is La Toya?  Oh wait, this Jackon look-alike is actually Lil’ Kim!

In photos that appeared on today, Lil’ Kim, the latest celeb example of plastic surgery go ary, looks like she’s started her own transformation to look like MJ.  Love the bag.  Love the shoes.  The face, well, maybe another round on the operating table would make me love it more.

In all fairness though, this is actually the best Lil’ Kim has looked in a long time, and we love her regardless.

Michael Jackson Tribute: Eric Solomon Sings ‘Man In the Mirror’

3 07 2009

It has only been one week since the passing of the King of Pop.  In tribute to all his contributions to each of our lives, here’s a heartfelt rendition of Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror, by Eric Solomon.

Solomon’s  powerful vocals, sleek chord changes and rifts, and  raw strumming on the guitar expresses through music our collective emotion and loss.

Mollie Sugden, Star of “Are You Being Served?,” Dies at 86

1 07 2009

Mollie Sugden, the British comedy actress best known for her role as saleswoman Mrs. Slocombe on BBC’s hit series “Are You Being Served?,” died today at 86.

Though American audiences may be less familiar with the  star who became a pop culture icon for sporting candy-colored wigs and talking about her “pussy” [cat] throughout the run of the show, Sugden’s fan base has continued to grow in the US thanks largely to continued reruns of the show on PBS (check your local listings for days and times).  She was even mentioned throughout the original run of Little Britain, another BBC comedy that made the leap across the pond and instantly found a connection with American audiences.

With Sugden’s passing, there are just three surviving members from the original cast.  Looks like a reunion is out of the question.  Sugden, her wigs, her pussy [cat] and her sharp-witted tongue will be greatly missed.
